This is the Seal Pile netsuke, carved by Martin Perry. It was authenticated by Perry at Rosemont this year (see initials on bottom view). This is a pre-Harmony Kingdom piece, made of crushed marble and resin. It is not a box, like the current HK pieces, but a single solid piece. This one is a pile of 5 playful seals, and is one of the more rare netsukes. The eyes are painted a shiny blank, and shine with life. I apologize for it being slightly out of focus! :)
There are no chips or other flaws on this piece.
This netsuke was bought a while ago from a retail shop. They did not have a box for it, but stated they had had the piece for a very long time, so it is possible that there never was a box for the piece (early pieces by MP and co. were shipped in just bubble wrap).
